Round 4 of the Demon Energy D1NZ Championship Drifting Series put on an incredible show at Hampton Downs. The drivers and crews faced problems throughout the whole weekend with heat, mechanical issues, and driver errors.
Pro Results:
1st- Nico Reid
2nd- Daynom Templeman
3rd- Drew Donovan
The battles were tough on the drivers and judges starting in the top 16. One driver who rose above all the adversity and crowd favorite is Nico Reid.
Nico Reid and his RB25det S15 Silvia, had a rocky road getting to first place with two mechanical issues with his car resulting in the wheels falling off during two separate battles. It wasn’t looking good for a third win in a row and everyone was left on the edge of their seats waiting to see what the results would be with that huge failure to the rear end of his vehicle. Surprising enough Nico and his team were able to fix the problems when they occurred and left it all on the track with nothing to lose and found themselves in the finals going up against points leader in the championship Daynom Templeman in his 2jz e46 Bmw.
With both drivers giving it their all and not making any big mistakes, the judges couldn’t decide the winner of their battle and called for OMT. Nico on his lead lap ran a near perfect line with Daynom close behind leaving some points on the track with low proximity. Nico took advantage of this and on his chase lap, he dominated the battle following Daynom’s line with very high proximity which allowed an easy decision for the judges to give Nico the win.
The fans really showed who was their favorite driver was and cheered in an uproar when Nico was awarded the win. With Nico winning his third consecutive first place podium this makes him the target to beat by all driver which leaves an exciting future for our crowd favorite driver. Her is how the points stack up after 4 Rounds!
